What Are Cockroaches and Why Are They a Problem in Florida?

Florida's warm, humid climate keeps cockroaches active year-round. They live near moisture in sewers, drains, pipes, and bathrooms, picking up bacteria and germs as they go. When they crawl across your kitchen counters or food surfaces, they transfer those germs with them. Cockroaches are nocturnal, so seeing one during the day often signals a medium to heavy infestation.

Health Risks You Shouldn't Ignore

Cockroaches are more than just unpleasant to look at. They can trigger allergies and asthma, especially in children, and are known to spread bacteria from sewage and garbage to food prep areas. A small roach problem can grow into a full infestation quickly because of how fast they reproduce. Early treatment is almost always easier and less expensive than waiting.

Signs You May Have Cockroaches

Look for droppings that resemble black pepper or coffee grounds, egg cases tucked behind appliances or in dark corners, and a musty odor that gets stronger near their harborage areas. If you're seeing cockroaches during daylight hours, the infestation has likely grown beyond one or two stray insects.

What's the difference between a palmetto bug and a cockroach?

Palmetto bug is just a local nickname for the American cockroach, one of the largest species in Florida. It's reddish-brown, grows to about two inches, and is well adapted to Florida's warm, humid environment. Same pest, different name.

Why are cockroaches hard to get rid of on your own?

Store-bought sprays kill visible cockroaches but rarely reach the colony. Roaches hide in walls, behind appliances, and inside cabinets, making it difficult to treat all the areas where they breed and shelter. Professional treatment targets both visible pests and their harborage areas for lasting results.
What We Do

How We Eliminate Cockroaches

Florida's warm, humid climate keeps cockroaches active year-round. They live near moisture in sewers, drains, pipes, and bathrooms, picking up bacteria and germs as they go and transferring them onto food surfaces. Cockroaches are nocturnal, so seeing one during the day often signals a medium to heavy infestation. They can trigger allergies and asthma, spread bacteria from sewage to food prep areas, and reproduce fast enough that a small problem can become a serious infestation in a short period of time. Early treatment is almost always easier and less expensive than waiting.
